Make your New Year's Eve an event in 2013! Enjoy a champagne reception at the inn before heading downtown to celebrate. The downtown festivities this year include the music of the Commodores, fireworks and the new 600-lb electronic moonpie! Afterwards, retire to your luxurious accomodations in one of our nine guest rooms, five suites or our two cottages (which sleep 6 guests). Wake up the next day to a gourmet breakfast prepared by our chef and start off 2013 right!

"Fireworks, music and fun are usually found at most cities' New Year’s Eve celebrations. This year Mobile, Alabama will take their celebration to a new level with the addition of a 600-lb electronic MoonPie, a treat synonymous to the city's Carnival season.
The city has partnered this year with Chattanooga Bakery Inc., the maker of the iconic MoonPie brand marshmallow sandwich, to enhance the New Year’s Eve celebration with a 600-lb electronic MoonPie that will light up Mobile's skyline at the stroke of midnight."

"GIANT MOONPIE TO FALL NEW YEAR'S EVE IN MOBILE TO THE SOUNDS OF THE COMMODORES
MOBILE, Ala., November 8, 2012 - The corner of St. Joseph and St. Francis Streets in downtown Mobile will be the hot spot for New Year's fun this year. Instead of celebrating in a "Brick House," Mobile will hit the streets in the premiere New Year's Eve celebration in the Central Time Zone. The Commodores will be the headlining act as Mobile rings in 2013, along with the MoonPie Drop, a laser show and fireworks from atop the RSA BankTrust Building and in Mobile Bay.
The free events will kick off with a Mardi Gras-style parade at 7:30 p.m. that will parade through downtown. Such local and regional acts as Wet Willie Band, Hotwire, Grayson Capps and others will be performing on stages in Mobile's historic Bienville Square and at Government and Royal streets on the Austal stage in Mardi Gras Park where two of the city's notable museums, the Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center and History Museum of Mobile will be offering children's activities as the clock moves closer to the magical midnight hour At midnight, eyes in Mobile and across the Central Time Zone will be on Mobile's Mardi Gras icon - the MoonPie. The 12-foot-tall electronic MoonPie will descend from the 34-story RSA BankTrust skyrise as the city welcomes 2013 and the beginning of Mardi Gras season. This is the 5th year the iconic MoonPie has debuted as part of Mobile's New Year's Eve Celebration. Whether you prefer RC Cola or a glass of champagne, ring in the New Year in downtown Mobile.
"We looked at several locations and wanted to bring the MoonPie Drop and stage location closer together to build more enthusiasm," said Mayor Sam Jones of Mobile. "The combination of the great entertainment, the uniqueness of the MoonPie Drop and an anticipated large crowd have the makings of one amazing evening," said Jones. "Austal USA, a new sponsor, and our other sponsors are making this possible and we are delighted that 20 media markets will be counting down the new year live from Mobile, Alabama."
In addition to the smaller stages featuring local acts throughout the evening, the main stage adjacent to Bienville Square, will allow for larger crowds, better protection from the weather and great views of the MoonPie and the fireworks shows.
This year's MoonPie Over Mobile celebration will start with a Mardi Gras-style parade featuring floats, bands and a few surprises. Afterwards, a street party of live entertainment will help draw thousands of people downtown. Crowds will be able to write their New Year's resolutions on two giant boards and start 2013 off right. Downtown Mobile will be one giant street party that will last into the early hours of the New Year.
"Mobile's New Year's Eve Celebration featuring the MoonPie Over Mobile has become a cultural phenomenon in the entire USA," said Mobile City Councilman Fred Richardson. "Just like the Commodores song, making New Year's Eve plans is 'Easy,' just head to downtown Mobile for a fun and safe celebration to remember. Last year we had more than 60,000 people attend MoonPie Over Mobile and we hope to make it even larger this year," said Richardson. "I look forward to this New Year's Eve being the best that has ever been in our city." First started in 2008, MoonPie Over Mobile gives locals and tourists a chance to experience New Year's Eve with a bit of Mardi Gras flavor. Richardson is credited for creating the MoonPie Over Mobile concept.
"All eyes will be on Mobile this New Year's Eve," said Kent Blackinton, general manager of Renaissance Riverview Plaza and president of the Mobile Hotel Association. "We have added more family friendly activities to make this great party even better this year. With lots of fun and affordable options, we are looking to fill the streets of Mobile and the hotel rooms in the city to welcome 2013 with a bang. Television viewers throughout the Central Time Zone can watch MoonPie Over Mobile live in a 35-minute telecast on Raycom stations, but we would rather have you being part of the excitement.""

This is such a wonderful time of the year here in Mobile. Growing up as a small child in Birmingham and then moving to Mobile later in life has been a blast. One of the first things that any new Mobilian will learn is that Mobile Alabama is the actual birthplace of Mardi Gras. Sorry to hurt your feelings but yes it is very true. We are the home of the original Carnival Celebration and that is still true today. Mobile’s Mardi Gras is a very unique experience and one that everyone should enjoy at least once in their lifetime.

Fort Conde Inn is in a great location in the heart of downtown Mobile and we are very close to the parade route and all of the festivities. There is one little difference in our hotel and all of the others downtown though, and that being said it is a BIG difference. We are off the beaten path as they call it, located in Fort Conde Village right off of Royal Street and just far enough away from the excitement that you can enjoy, relax and have a very cozy place to rest your head at night after you have engulfed yourself in all of the fun of Mobile’s Mardi Gras.

We do have rooms still available for Mardi Gras and the rates are fabulous to say the least. Mardi Gras falls on Tuesday February 21st this year. We have rooms available from Friday February 17th all the way until Fat Tuesday! Our rates are all within the 200 dollar range and our rooms are all very upscale and luxurious. Along with your stay you will get a complimentary gourmet breakfast cooked fresh each morning by Chef Jeremy. Also don’t fret about getting your hair messed up or your gown torn while on your way to the carnival ball you will be going to. We have an Acura MDX shuttle that will be happy to drop you off right at the front door and even pick you back up after the evening has elapsed.

Enjoy Mardi Gras 2012 with us here at Fort Conde Inn and make a new tradition in your carnival life.

The weekend was a blast. Getting to meet film makers of all ages from all over the country. We had several of the feature film makers actually stay here at the Inn during the festival.

I do not know where to begin to start off but I am going to try to detail as much as possible about the festival.

Starting this past Friday November 4th, we had the opening party here at the Inn for the Film Festival. I would guess around a 100 people were in attendance and it was a lot of networking and just meeting the people of the festival. The catering was done by Heroes and The Royal Scam and well yea that should tell you how good it was.

On Friday evening after the party we were invited to the opening film in the Cathedral Square here downtown. It was a bit chilly outside but we all went and enjoyed the opening nights feature film, General Orders Number 9.

Saturday was really our favorite day of the festival. I feel like we watched over 20 films in one day and enjoyed the Shed Barbecue for lunch. The local film office invited down the state film director and his wife and we really had a good time meeting up with them throughout the weekend and having them stay here at the inn with us.

Ok I am sure you really want to know which film got the A+ and was our favorite.

It had to be Missing Pieces! This was a super preview that was got to see at the Crescent Theatre, one of our loyal partners in crime. The movie was outstanding and the Q&A afterwards with the twenty two year old writer, producer, and director was very educational. We really think you should be looking for this film in a theatre near you very soon. A Special Thanks goes out to everyone of the festival. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of such a wonderful event and thank you to all of the film makers and attendees that booked a room at the inn. Fort Conde Inn was fully booked this past weekend and we are very proud to say that there are many more of those to come.

With Kind Regards,

We were well prepared this year for all of the fun that halloween has to offer. As usual the weather was a bit on the cool side for the evening of Halloween and with guests in house it was a quite a challenge to carve pumpkins on the balcony. But, as you probably already know we succeeded in doing just that.

It is amazing how nice the village is at this time of the year. After deciding to decorate the Inn with pumpkins and other fall harvest decor we contacted the Pumpkin Patch at Dauphin Street United Methodist Church. They were very willing to give us a nice deal and help us decorate the inn. I see more and more people around this town that really do believe in this inn becoming a huge success and working really hard to help us get there. That in itself is a really proud accomplishment.

We bought 10 pumpkins and some other fall decor and loaded them all into the car. That was a pretty funny site, wish I could have gotten a picture of that. The pumpkins look very nice on the doorstep and by the front gates of the inn. And that best part is that the ones we did not carve we kept and added to our Fall into Fort Conde Inn decor.

Check the website for the Fall rates. They are going quick!

Looking out the windows we can see the leaves starting to change on the trees. Fall is now upon us. Fort Conde Inn is so beautiful at this time of year. Mobile’s temperature is almost perfect, warm in the middle of the day and a bit chilly in the evenings.
